PSYCHOTHERAPY & COUNSELLING

Steve Schwartz

Steve is a PACFA certified integrative psychotherapist who holds a B.A degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling from the Ikon Institute of Australia and completed his CPAT training (Certified Psychedelic Assisted Therapist) with Mind Medicine Australia.

Steve is the recent recipient of multi awards: winning the 2024 Rafael Locke Outstanding Student Award, which is presented to graduates who exemplify excellence across the domains of practice, academic performance, leadership, leadership potential, Ikons values and graduate attribute, as well as Ikon’s Dean’s Scholar Award, a national award presented to the graduate with the highest GPA. Steve most recently entered academia by accepting a role as an assistant teacher to Dr. Tra-ill Dowie at the Ikon Institute.

Originally from the USA, Steve previously studied graphic design in New York and holds a degree in visual arts. He also has a wide array of experience working with disadvantaged youth in wilderness group therapy settings in Alaska and California as well as working with chronically and terminally ill children at summer camps across North America and Europe. Through his own experience of therapy, Steve felt a calling towards it, seeking to understand the organisation of his own mind and the relationships he has with himself and others.

Steve's therapy approach is humanistic, collaborative and client-centred; one that is focused on creating a safe space of transformation, meeting clients ‘wherever’ they are emotionally and psychologically and helping them to get to wherever they may want to be. Steve focuses on attachment repair, emotional disturbances: anxiety, depression, anger, developing coping mechanisms, trauma/PTSD, existential angst, self-esteem issues, relational disturbances and psychedelics integration.

Steve is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and believes strongly that physical health aids mental well-being, advocating meditation, healthy nutrition and living a balanced lifestyle. When not training or practicing therapy, you can find him surfing, travelling and spending time in nature.
